Joint Pain was created to help people with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and related disorders learn about treatments to ease symptoms and help them lead a more comfortable life.

There are natural treatments for joint pain that can have significant benefits, and more and more people are choosing safer alternatives to treat joint pain due to arthritis.

Ceoxx Side Effects Include Increased Heart Attack Risk

Because of the potentially life-threatening Ceoxx side effects, marketed as Vioxx in the United States, Merck was urged to pull the popular anti-inflammatory medication from the global market in late 2004. Ceoxx was used to relieve symptoms of arthritis, acute pain in adults, and painful menstrual cycles, before clinical trials showed possible serious drug side effects Ceoxx could bring about, such as doubling the risk of heart attack and stroke, among others. The incidences of Ceoxx side effects have impacted how the government, doctors and patients view this new breed of selective NSAIDs called COX-2 inhibitors.

After the FDA approved Ceoxx in 1999, Merck continued to perform clinical trials on the drug and to reveal any possible Ceoxx side affect that may make the drug unsafe for patients who use it. Their own studies would eventually lead to the end of the popular medicine due to the undeniable evidence pointing to the potential side effects of Ceoxx usage. After analyzing the data, the FDA and its team of experts had little choice but to issue a warning about the drug side effects Ceoxx caused in patients who used it for a period of eighteen months or longer. As a result, Merck voluntarily removed the drug from the worldwide market.

Are other COX-2 inhibitors and anti-inflammatory medications a better option? Probably not. Studies show that a Ceoxx side affect would probably be common to all NSAIDs, including increased risk of heart attack, stroke and gastrointestinal bleeding in the form of stomach ulcers. These problems bring to light an issue that not only affects Ceoxx, but impacts similar drugs, as well.

Ceoxx is also closely related to the popular nonselective NSAIDs, such as Ibuprofen, sold under the brand names of Motrin, Advil and others. In fact, the FDA recently advised manufacturers to revise their labeling to provide more specific information about the potential heart attack and gastrointestinal risks of their products. The drug side effects Ceoxx caused pointed to similar dangers in the over-the-counter nonselective NSAIDs, which until recently, most people viewed as benign.

In summary, the Ceoxx side effects are not just limited to Ceoxx, but to other anti-inflammatory drugs as well. In addition to the non-prescription NSAID warning, the FDA recently issued a warning regarding Celebrex, a close relative of Ceoxx, citing the same drug side effects Ceoxx was reported to have. Pfizer also removed another of its popular arthritis medications Bextra from shelves. So is a Ceoxx side affect common to other NSAIDs? The answer is a resounding yes.

Is there an alternative to these prescription and over-the-counter pain medications to help ease the pain, inflammation, redness and swelling associated with arthritis and similar conditions?

Yes, other options do exist. Fortunately, reputable vitamin and supplement manufacturers offer a host of natural anti-inflammatory drugs such as glucosamine, chondroitin, and an organic sulfur compound called MSM, among other natural effective treatments. Pain sufferers can avoid the drug side effects Ceoxx has by taking natural supplements. Many of these supplements go straight to the cause of the problem by strengthening and rebuilding connective tissue, reducing inflammation and providing powerful relief for pain sufferers.
